Diesel Train from King's Lynn August 1957 |
Steam trains ran for over 90 years. Diesel trains started to take over in the 1950's. Booking offices between Hunstanton & King's Lynn started closing during the last years and all tickets were issued on the trains by the guard from 1966.

During the 1939 - 1945 war an Armoured Train was stationed at Heacham. From July 1940 until May 1943 the engine crew came from The Royal Engineers (R.O.D.). Also 24 troops from The Royal Tank Regiment until early 1941 when men of The Polish Forces took over. |

The Heacham to Wells line opened to passengers on 17th August 1866 - four years after the King's Lynn to Hunstanton line opened. The line closed to passengers on 31st May 1952.
