An unexpected turn of events at this year's Music Marathon was the arrival and inpromptu entertainment by the Fridhem Rest Home Bed Push Team.  Click here for more about the bed push

John Harris' 24th Music Marathon provided its usual variety of entertainment and was a welcome distraction from the awful weather encountered over the Easter weekend.  The Lady Mayor of the Borough of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, Councillor Mrs Kathy Mellish, officially opened this year's event at 10am and local MP, Henry Bellingham, was also present to support John and his troupe.  I am told that Mr Bellingham has attended all but two of the marathons over the years.  Well done Mr Bellingham!

The programme - amongst other features - for the day included:

David and Kath Burkett (piano & recorder)
beautiful singing by Stephanie Walford (I really enjoyed "Come to the Fair")
poetry by Doreen Reed
instrumentalists and soloists from Heacham Junior School
singing by George Braun
bellringing by Christine Dean and her troupe

John's first marathon consisted of John playing a solo for the duration of the occasion and the event has been long-established as a regular feature in the local social calendar with many singers and entertainers contributing to the line up.  The first twenty three marathons have raised some £12,000 for The MS Society and many other worthwhile causes.  Causes supported by the proceeds of this year's event included The MS Society (John's wife Rosemary was a sufferer of this tragic illness), Different Strokes and The Kenyan Children's Project (both of these charities were suggested by keen young supporters of the Marathon).
