------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On 13 June 1906, Mr and Mrs Butcher brought into the world a little baby girl and they named her Emily Gertrude.  That young girl is 100 years young on 13 June 2006.  One of seven brothers and seven sisters?  Yes 14 in all - alas only two remain.  These include her younger sister Margery, who is 95 on 21 June and herself.  Scroll down for Trudy's life story.

Emily Gertrude Callaby (known as Trudy)

She was born on 13 June 2022 at West Rudham, one of fourteen children born to Alice and George Butcher.

Her early years, after leaving school, were spent in service at various large houses in different parts of the country.  This included Eaton Square in London.  She returned to Norfolk at the age of twenty-one and worked for the Rolfe family at Heacham.  While in service there, she met and married John Callaby (1932).  Sadly, John died in 1977.

Trudy and Jack had three daughters - Jill (deceased), Sheila and Brenda.  She has seven Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren.

During their married lives, they lived at Pinnacle Row, The Drift, Pound Lane and, after Jack passed away, at Sunnyside Close.  Her whole married life was spent living in Heacham.  She moved to the Driftwood Residential Home in 2002.

Since living in Heacham, Trudy has attended Heacham Parish Church and has played an active part in church life.  She has also been a member of The Heacham Mother's Union and, in later years, The Old Friends Club and The British Legion.

She has been the mainstay of the family and has always been there with help and advice.  Her one thought has been the welfare of her family, and she has always been available to help when the need arose.  As a result she is loved and respected by every member of the family.
