50,000 check out Heacham-On-Line
HEACHAM'S own community website has received 50,000 hits from all over the world, just 22 months after it was launched. Heacham-On-Line was the brainchild of retired villagers Malcolm Diggins and Barry Gardiner, who started the website in March 2001. They hit the 50,000 hit mark on Wednesday January 22. The site includes a guest book where people can write messages and comments.  Mr. Diggins said: "We have had e-mails from everywhere, it's quite incredible. We have had them from Australia, America and Canada. "Most of them are people who have moved away from Heacham and have spotted the website by going into a search engine, or by being told about it by friends."  The site has seen a lot of contact from American former servicemen stationed in the area when they were at  the Sculthorpe airbase. One of the most visited areas is the 17 pages of old school photographs  and memories. The web pages also include photographs and coverage from Heacham and Hunstanton events, including the carnivals, flower and garden festivals and sporting events such as the tennis and bowls tournaments. The site, which is non-profit-making, relies on sponsorship from West Norfolk businesses to cover the  costs of keeping the webpages running. Heacham-On-Line can be reached on www.heacham1.fsnet.co.uk  The site's online archive - which holds all stories that are more than two months old,  can be reached on www.heacham2.fsnet.co.uk

Heacham Worldwide

AN INTERNET WEBSITE dedicated to Heacham and run by two retired villagers is celebrating more than 9,000 visitors in it’s first four months

  • Malcolm Diggins and Barry Gardiner set up Heacham~On~Line in March and have been running it in their spare time as a hobby.
  • But it has proved so popular that people as far away as Australia, Canada and America have been logging on – many ex-villagers who moved abroad.
  • “We didn’t realize how many people would look at it,” said Mr Diggins. “We’ve now had 9,600 hits. To think that nearly 10,000 people have looked at the site is amazing.
  • The site includes a guest book where people can write messages and comments on the site.
  • Mr Diggins added: “This morning we had someone sign the guest book from Texas who said his mum and dad were with the USAF at Sculthorpe air base in the 1950s.”
  • The two friends started putting on old pictures of Heacham schools or sports clubs, before expanding the site as time passed.
  • They recently covered Hunstanton and Heacham Carnivals; Hunstanton open bowls tournament and Heacham flower and garden festival – with 100 photographs on the site.
  • You can visit Heacham~On~Line at: http://www.heacham1.fsnet.co.uk/ or visit our second site 'Heacham~On~Line Archives' at: www.heacham2.fsnet.co.uk/
