We were asked by David Bird if we could help promote Lindsay's efforts in the 'Great East Anglian Run'. As you all know David has been supporting the charity for many years now and we are only too pleased to give him and his family all the support we can. Below is a copy of a letter David has sent to the Heacham Newsletter.
David, Joanne and Lindsay can be contacted at 19 The Drift Heacham PE31 7DT or Telephone  01485 572750

Dear Friends of the Heacham Newsletter

Just a few weeks ago our daughter, Lindsay Bird came home from school and said that she had seen a leaflet that had been passed around the school regarding the Great East Anglian Run (10k Road Race).  Lindsay asked us if we wouldn’t mind her having a go at doing this as she is really keen on sport of all kinds and is actually studying for her GCSE’s this year, one of these subjects being sport.

Of course we have agreed that she could do this as long as she was old enough to take part.  The rules state that to take part in a 10k race a runner must be 15 years of age on or before 28th May 2006 and fortunately for Lindsay this falls just right so she will be taking part.

I was taken quite by surprise when Lindsay said that she would like to represent the charity that I support which is of course Changing Faces, I hadn’t even thought of this idea and think that it was a really nice gesture on her part to try to promote the charity in her own way.  I must sincerely thank her for the thoughtfulness.

It has been suggested by the family that we should put an article regarding this in the Heacham Newsletter to see if anybody might be interested in trying to help Lindsay raise some money by sponsorship in this run.  If you feel you would like to help raise some funds for the charity please could you contact Lindsay, Joanne or myself on the above number?

With kind regards

David, Joanne & Lindsay

UPDATE FROM DAVID BIRD AT THE DRIFT

Sunday morning was such a brilliant day for the Great East Anglian 10K Run.  Lindsay had been preparing for this over the preceding weeks but felt that she should have trained a little more than she did as this was not as easy as first imagined. Lindsay did exceptionally well considering the training aspect though.

Lindsay did the run in 55 minutes and 54 seconds and came 734th out of over 1400 runners, she also came 136th out of a total 594 female runners.  We are so proud of her and the achievements that she made in doing this run.  Lindsay has decided that she would like to take part again next year if at all possible.

Lindsay, Joanne and myself were invited to attend a presentation at Cunningham Court recently to receive a cheque from the Warden Jane and her residents to the sum of £50.00 which was absolutely fantastic.  We were given tea and cake and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon with these very dear people.  We have also had lots of donations over the last few weeks through our letterbox and from the residents of Neville Court, this was for £20.00

We would like to thank all our very dear friends and a family for all the support that they have given over the last few weeks for Lindsay and the charity and appreciate all that they have done to raise a staggering £659.96.

Thank you all so much, this money has now been sent off to Changing Faces and know that they will be so thrilled by this fantastic sum of money.

With our very best wishes to everyone
David, Joanne & Lindsay Bird
