Albert's Last Day on the High Street
End of an Era After 42 Years

Photos and Feature by Stella of Heacham-On-Line

On Saturday, 25 March 2022 (1pm), after an amazing 42 years as a barber, Albert Ward, Gentlemen's Hairdresser, finally hung up his scissors and closed his doors.  And so ends an era in Heacham history.
Following his 3 year apprenticeship at Turners Hairdressers in Norfolk Street, King's Lynn (early 1960s), Albert moved to Heacham and opened up shop in Station Road (May 1964) in partnership with Ron Carnwall.  Following two years in Station Road, Albert relocated his business to the High Street (Dec 1971) and Ron changed direction to became a Heacham publican.

The photo above is kindly supplied by Albert's family.
It shows a good looking Albert (aged 18 or 19) cutting the hair of Frank English (May 1964)

I know you are retiring today Dad but do I really have to sweep up after myself!

There are many customers - Heachamites, holiday makers, those from nearby villages alike - who will remember Albert's as a central part of their lives - a place to meet, share news and to have a laugh.  Many generations of the same family (in some cases no less than four counted) have had their hair tended to by Albert over the years.  Albert's personal contribution to Heacham life will therefore be sadly missed.
