Could you help to support vulnerable people who find themselves caught up in the Criminal Justice System? There is an urgent need for Volunteer Appropriate Adults in your area. The role is important and interesting, training is given, as well as conferences and regular support meetings for volunteers. Appropriate Adults are a requirement of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act of 1984, to safeguard the rights of vulnerable people in custody. The Appropriate Adult is anyone who is independent of the police, who will ensure that the detained person understands all that is happening, who will aid communication, advocate when necessary and make sure that the due process of law is followed. If you are over 18, can commit some time to this most interesting and important task, if you have empathy with the vulnerable members of our society and have good communication skills, we would like to hear from you.
