Heacham Cricket Club.

2001 proved to be the most successful season in the Club's 'league' history. Although a very strong Club before the West Norfolk League was founded, Heacham C.C. have never been higher than the 2nd division. This year Heacham have followed last year's promotion from the third division by winning the 2nd division championship and will enter the First division for the first time.

This season's success was based on a team effort, although several individuals also performed at a high standard. The Rix brother's all did very well - Duncan and Stuart carrying on from where they left off last year with their economical bowling and Ian as a prolific batsman finishing with an average of 151. Andy Dix also performed admirably as an opening bowler. Steve Grief, our Captain, and Mark Shannon, his deputy, formed a reliable opening team, twice setting century partnerships and Mark Izatt and Duncan Findlay both chipped in with substantial scores during the season. Several others also played their part in the general team effort - Kevin Dix, Tim Rix, Adam Thompsett, Keith Miller, Tom Widdows, Graham Frost and Andy Green. We must also thank Vic Sopp and Philip Wright, two of the clubs stalwarts, for their support and umpiring.

The Club realise that next year will be tough and are not complacent about the task in hand even after recording eight straight wins this season. Consequently, the Club would welcome any interest from cricketers who feel that they could add a further dimension to the side.

The Club is also entering the winter indoor league and next season will attempt to put a midweek team together. So if there is anyone interested in joining a cricket club that is clearly on the up, they can contact either Steve Grief (01485 544756, Andy Green (01553 6700730 or Mark Shannon (01485 570513.
